Tanning Beds & Tanning Booths

There are really two different styles of tanning beds, the traditional tanning beds and the "vertical tanning beds," otherwise called tanning booths. Both styles of tanning beds can deliver an even and natural tan, but depending on what you're looking for in a tanning bed one style may suit you better than the other.

The traditional tanning beds, those that you lay down in to tan, are certainly the most common. The benefits of these tanning beds include their ability to deliver a deeper tan, maximum tanning comfort, and of-course their lower cost. The deeper tan results from tanning beds with low-pressure bronzing bulbs, while it does take longer to tan, these bulbs mimic natural sunlight better and deliver a deeper tan. Many tanners don't mind the longer session time because with tanning beds you get to lay down and relax during your tanning session. The cost of tanning beds is by far the biggest benefit, when compared with vertical tanning booths, tanning beds are $3000 to $5000 cheaper! The low cost of tanning beds gives many casual tanners the ability to purchase home tanning beds instead of relying on the commercial tanning beds at tanning salons.

In contrast the benefits of tanning booths include their short tanning session times, no-contact tanning, and minimal space requirements. Vertical tanning booths typically use different tanning bed bulbs than tanning beds do. Such tanning bulbs reduce the tanning session times to as little as 8 or 10 minutes. As well with tanning booths the tanner stands in the center of the booth where tanning power is centralized, this ensures development of an even and natural tan. For the home tanner one of the major benefits of tanning booths is their size, they take up a fraction of the space of traditional tanning beds. The one major drawback, unfortunately is the high price of tanning booths. Tanning booths can cost anywhere from $7000 to $8000; well out of the price range for many casual home tanners.
