Tanning in low-pressure tanning beds is similar to tanning outdoors or at the beach. High-pressure tanning beds, however, use high-pressure quarts lamps specially engineered to emit a higher percentage of UVA (tanning rays) and less UVB. The higher UVA content allows for faster tanning, sometimes as much as 6 to 8 times faster, and the reduced UVB component diminishes the chance of getting sun-burned.
